Curdworth Locks and tunnel.

It was Curdworth Locks today. Jill kindly condescended to allow me the honour of swinging off the windlass.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that these are B.C.N. locks with those big, heavy old single bottom gates, no, surely not. We soon got into our stride, they're not a bad flight and the single gates do remove the need to perform heroic acts leaping to and fro.

Lock 1 has the now defunct Kingsbury Swivel Bridge just above the top gates. NB swivel, not swing.

It was hard work on those locks.

I'm opening the gate, not just leaning on it, honest.

Despite being so near the Birmingham conurbation the flight has really rural feel to it with some lovely views.

Mind you, you also get up close and personal with the M42 for a while. Makes one glad to no longer have a car, hiring one now and then is bad enough.

Once out of the top lock you have Curdworth Tunnel to negotiate, it's only fifty seven yards but it's a bit of a tight squeeze. I really must sort those top boxes out.
We finally stopped by what was The Kingsley pub, closed with a lot of building work going on. Not sure if it's a major refurbishment or if it's being converted to another use.

Watch this space...........
